Short-term Recorders
From EARWiki
- This looks nice
- It has a USB 2.0 offload function. Might be interesting to see if we could work up the logic to spin up an external 500GB or 1TB hard drive periodically to offload the data from the smaller more power friendly 80GB HD.
- Its smaller cousin (Edirol R4) isn't all that bad, either; the only notable difference is a 40 GB HD vs. a 80 GB HD. Considering the difference in price, though, we should probably push for the R4 Pro. I'm going to put together a little purchase proposal for Bryan. What do we want in addition to the device, batteries and microphone? I'm also including a mounting set-up and a weather enclosure.
Another (messier) way to offload the data would be to bring an external drive and a laptop, and then pass the data from the recorder to the drive through the laptop. If we did that, we could mash the recordings into a tar file en-route, thereby reducing the necessary storage space.
